Midlength surfboards bridge the gap between a longboard and shortboard and allow for a good amount of freedom on the wave face and a shorter turning arc. Their popularity is due in part to the fact they appeal to both longboarders who want to come down to something more manoeuvrable (but without losing that flowing feeling) and shortboarders who want to increase their wave count (whilst still been able to crank a smooth turn). In recent years just about every surfboard manufacturer has released a mid-length model in their range and whether you love or hate them a lot of surfers are having a ball riding them.
