Hurley 2018 Wetsuits - The Lowdown!

Secretspot is excited to introduce the new arrival of Hurley wetsuits. Hurley have brought some impressive performance wetsuits onto the market with arrival of the the Hurley Advantage Plus and Advantage Max.

I've been putting the latest offerings from Hurley through their paces and these are my findings .

Hurley Advantage Plus 5/3.

I have surfing over the last five days in everything from 2 feet sheet glass to chunky windy mushburgers and I have to say I'm pretty impressed with the Hurley 5/3 Advantage Plus. Immediate first thoughts was zero water entry throughout the suit. The neck seal is pretty awesome and did not flush on any duck dives or floggings, it kept me dry and toasty the whole time. One thing I did really like about the suit is the pre bent/formed legs. Unlike other suits Hurley's Advantage range looks almost bow legged on display but the this is clearly noticeable when tried on. I've had multiple knee surgeries cos I'm an old codger but it's one of the comfiest suits I've come across to date.

The panel layout design has had some serious thought injected into its design, with minimal back seams across the shoulders making paddling a dream. That coupled together with a quick dry lining makes this a pretty sweet wetsuit. All in all this is a mid priced winter wetsuit that I would say is geared to a more performance based surfer. Perfect for UK south / southwest winters. The East Coast winters are amongst the coldest water temps out there and from Mid December - March a hood is mandatory so Hurley have also introduced the Advantage Max Hooded 5/3. This higher end suit comes complete with  liquid sealed seams and a full thermal core lining on the inside. More suited to the  winter warrior who wants total performance over thicker warmer but ultimately more cumbersome wetsuits.

Secretspot is proud to have partnered up with Hurley and now features In store the Hurley concept wall. Secretspot is the the first physical store in the UK to be awarded this status and the shop in shop showcases the best rubber and apparel from this leading global surf brand.

In June of this year we were fortune enough to attend Hurley's launch campaign at the now up and running Hurley/Pukas surf centre on Zurriola beach in stunning San Sebastien on the North Spanish coast. As well as the launch of Hurley's new rubber and also the premiere of Nick von Rupp's new movie Reef Road we were led to the beach the next morning to undergo a coaching and video analysis. Overseen by a host of European pros we were scrutinised about our techniques or lack of it ..... Ha ha. British pro and fellow East coaster Sam Lamiroy was the head coach putting us through our paces and offered us some sound advice and tips for the future . Which leads us on lastly after speaking with Hurley - Secretspot in the coming future will be hosting a coaching and video analysis from our Cayton bay site. This will be totally free to the public and will be on a first come first served basis. We will keep you updated on our social media platforms of up and coming dates, so if you want to improve your surfing by top European surfers and accredited coaches look no further as this unique event looks sure to happen in the not too distant future.
